New Noises on 13th Street October 7, 2009

Motorcades have shattered the relative calm of Washington D.C. in this post-Hanoi-Visit era. This afternoon, I sat at the kitchen table, updating my resume and sending out job applications, when the sound of sirens filled the air. Looking out the window, I saw several squad cars, at least 8 staggered black suburbans (including the always frightening “open rear window with a very large gun sticking out” vehicle), and an ambulance. This was not the first occurrence this week. Could it be that the White House has left the 16th Street Route? Does this mean that I will no longer enjoy peace and quiet?

I hope not. Any day now, I may make that connection that will get me a job and off the VWS and away from the kitchen table. Can’t wait.
